When to Renew Your Certification

All TCPs are required to renew their certification every three years. Re-certify at any time, but if you don’t renew within 6 months of your certificate expires, you will be required to take the 2-day training course again. The course is a condensed version of the 2-Day TCP certification without the on-road practical portion, covering the following topics:

  • Roles and responsibilities of TCPs, employers and supervisors
  • Regulations and standards, including those set out by the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, WorkSafeBC and the Motor Vehicle Act
  • Traffic control equipment and devices, including personal protective equipment
  • Setting up, maintaining and removing work zones
  • Working around equipment
  • Basic and advanced traffic control skills
Can I take this course if my ticket is expired?

TCPs are eligible to renew anytime they hold a valid BCCSA TCP card or up to one year following your previous card’s expiry.

Can I take this course online?

Yes, there is an online renewal course that is available. It requires access to a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam. A phone or tablet will not work.

The in-person two-day or one-day TCP course can be taken in place of the online one-day TCP renewal course.

Is there an on-road practical portion?
