Traffic Control Person Certification

This comprehensive 16-hour TCP certification program is required to become a certified flagger and will set you up for confidence and success on the job site. In this course, you’ll learn:

  • Roles and responsibilities of TCPs, employers and supervisors
  • Regulations and standards, including those set out by the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, WorkSafeBC and the Motor Vehicle Act
  • Traffic control equipment and devices, including personal protective equipment
  • Setting up, maintaining and removing work zones
  • Working around equipment
  • Basic and advanced traffic control skills
How long is the course?

The duration of the course is 16-hours over 2 consecutive days. This includes classroom participation & learning, a written exam requiring a minimum of 80% to pass and an on-road practical skills portion to assess the knowledge gained.

How long is the TCP ticket valid?

The ticket is valid for 3 years anywhere in BC.

Does United Traffic offer employment after completion of the course?

United Traffic offers employment based on seasonal needs.

Is a TCP ticket from another province valid in BC?

No, a TCP ticket from another province is not valid in BC. Any TCP arriving from another province must take a WorkSafeBC-approved traffic control two-day course.

Can I take the course online?

No, the course must be taken in the classroom as there are hands-on elements to the program that cannot be completed online including an on-road practical portion.
